Konveio Partners with Allyant to Expand Affordable Document Accessibility

Konveio is partnering with Allyant to offer automated document remediation that helps organizations improve the accessibility of their PDFs quickly and affordably.

For many public agencies, accessibility is not simply a matter of remediating a small collection of permanent documents. Plans, reports, presentations, meeting materials, and draft policies are frequently published on Konveio for only a few weeks before being revised or replaced. Paying for full manual remediation every time a temporary or frequently changing document is posted can be both time-consuming and cost-prohibitive.

The same challenge applies to lower-priority documents supporting projects hosted on Konveio. While these materials should still be accessible, their limited readership or short lifespan may not justify the cost and turnaround time associated with complete human remediation.

The new integration between Konveio and Allyant provides a practical option for these situations.

Allyant’s AI-driven auto-remediation technology can address approximately 80% to 90% of common document accessibility issues at a significantly lower price point than traditional manual remediation. The service can intelligently tag document structures, generate alternative text for images, and even repair certain types of file corruption.

This gives organizations a stronger accessibility baseline across a much larger portion of their Konveio documents and Plan Library without first undertaking a lengthy and expensive inventory or remediation project. It also helps identify the remaining accessibility gaps that may require additional attention.

Automated remediation will not eliminate the need for human expertise. Complex documents, including many fillable forms, will continue to require manual intervention. Allyant’s manual remediation services are available for those documents and for any remaining issues that cannot be resolved through automation.

Konveio also provides no-cost access to a human interpreter for users who encounter an accessibility barrier while reviewing content. Together, automated remediation and human assistance provide a practical one-two approach: improve the accessibility of every document within available budgets while ensuring that additional support is available when needed.

Remediated and properly tagged documents also unlock broader benefits within Konveio.

Konveio’s accessible reader experience depends in part on the underlying structure of the source document. When headings and other elements are tagged correctly, users of assistive technology can navigate the content more effectively and take advantage of Konveio’s broader set of accessibility and engagement tools.

However, PDF tagging also improves feedback analysis. A new Konveio feature automatically saves the relevant document heading alongside each submitted comment. This provides immediate context for feedback and makes comments easier to organize, filter, summarize, and analyze. Because the feature relies on properly tagged headings, remediation improves both accessibility and the usefulness of the engagement data collected through the document.

The goal is not to position automated remediation as a replacement for full manual remediation in every situation. Instead, it offers a cost-effective and scalable solution for temporary, frequently updated, or lower-priority materials, while preserving a clear path to human remediation for more complex documents.

Through its integration with Allyant, Konveio can help clients make more of their content accessible, support users who need additional assistance, and gain greater value from their documents and public feedback—all within the realities of limited budgets and changing content.
